Working in Maldon and the surrounding regions is always fascinating due to the area's rich history. You truly never know what unique things you might uncover on the job.

You won't believe what I stumbled upon while running cables in a roofspace in Maldon (May 2025).

Despite the usual tight squeezes, working in Maldon is always interesting with its rich history. You just never know what you might find.

In May, I came across this beaut of an old shop front, perfectly preserved.

Back in the day if you were down at the Kangaroo Hotel, this shop front would of been in perfect view.

Pretty amazing to come across pieces of history like this in unexpected places.

As you walk through the streets of Maldon, Castlemaine, and the surrounding areas, particularly within the Mount Alexander Shire, you might not be able to see that some of the homes and commercial businesses dating back to the late 1800s still have their original shingled wooden roofs hidden beneath their newer exterior roofing!

While many of my clients are already aware of this historical detail of their home, for those who aren't, it's such a pleasant surprise to discover.

When I'm working on properties built in the late 1800s to early 1900s, it often feels like their roof spaces are a true time warp!

I'm currently learning more about the history of roof shingles and I look forward to sharing an update with you soon.

"The Roofspace Chronicles and Beyond" - by Kirk | Wesleyan Church Maldon, Vic |

While completing electrical work on the old Wesleyan Church in Maldon, built in 1863, I found myself very intrigued with some writing underneath the church.

After getting approval, I shared these photos (all photos can be found within the full post) with Tony Kane from the Maldon Museum & Archives Association.

Tony was able to identify the names, bringing to light those who had left their mark on this 162-year-old Wesleyan Church. They, too, are now forever a part of its history.
