Q: When does the program start?
A: Batteries installed between now and July 1 will be eligible for incentives, provided that they are not switched on until July 1. This is based on the assumption that the Labor government is elected.
Q: Do I have to participate in a Virtual Power Plant (VPP)?
A: No. While the batteries need to be VPP-capable, participation in a VPP is not mandatory.
Q: Does battery storage size matter?
A: Yes, the subsidy applies to eligible battery systems with a usable capacity of 5kWh – 50kWh.
Q: How much will this save me on a battery storage purchase?
A: This program offers an approximately 30% discount.
Q: Can I use the current loans and rebates offered by Solar Victoria along side this program?
A: Yes. Customers who are eligible can take advantage of current loans and rebates to reduce upfront costs, including interest-free loans which are designed to help bridge the financial gap.
Q: What if I already own a solar PV system with a battery?
A: No problem, you can install another/additional battery system and still be eligible.
Q: Can I be eligible if I don't have an existing solar system or want a new one?
A: The battery must be connected to a new or existing solar PV system to be eligible.
Q: What if I rent?
A: Solar Victoria offers rebates and interest-free loans for solar panel installation on eligible rental properties. They also provide a template on their website to facilitate discussions with rental providers about going solar.
Q: What if I cant afford a solar PV system, let alone battery storage?
A: Smart Energy Council (SEC) chief John Grimes had this to share on Sunday.
“It’s important to understand that this policy will help reduce the power bills of everyone, not just those who can get solar and a battery,”
“Less demand on the energy grid means fewer price peaks, a win win for all.”
